EMS Letter from Principal

Viking Families,

We are implementing changes to the EMS schedule immediately to address safety concerns, breakfast and lunch problems, and other issues we experienced last week.

  • Buses will drop students off on the east side of EMS.

  • Parent drop-off will be on the west side.

  • We will continue to do 100% screening/bag checks.

  • Time has been added to our three breakfast periods.

  • We will move from two to three lunch periods.

  • Passing time has been increased from 3 to 5 minutes between classes so we can stagger the release of students.

  • We will continue to stagger the end-of-day dismissal.

  • Lockers will be assigned this week as planned to students who want a locker.

  • Buses will load on the east in the afternoon.

  • Parents may pick up on either side of EMS.  Do not drive down the bus lane on the east side.

Our top priority has always been student and staff safety.  Our first monthly fire drill will be conducted on Tuesday with a tornado drill to follow in September.

As we work to reduce class size numbers, we continue to look to add additional teachers to lower class sizes.  We will continue to make adjustments as needed to provide our students with the best educational experience possible.  We welcome our TMS students and staff along with other newcomers to EMS.  Combining the strengths of these schools will make EMS stronger.   Please be patient with us as we work with district administration to make these changes. Feel free to email, call, or schedule a visit.  We welcome your input.

Sincerely,

Beverly Mattingly, Principal
